Oprah Winfrey is on tear with the primetime specials.
Just a few days after airing her ABC exploration of artificial intelligence with leaders in the tech community, the media mogul has set her TV outing at CBS. An Oprah Special: The Presleys – Elvis, Lisa Marie And Riley is the result of Winfrey’s recent trip to Elvis Presley‘s historic Graceland Mansion where she interviewed Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough.
Keough’s sit-down with the queen of sit-downs comes nearly two years after the unexpected death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley at 54 years old. Prior to her death, the Elvis’ lone offspring recorded hours of stories from her unique life for a memoir. Working with those recordings, Keough co-penned the book From Here to the Great Unknown. It arrives Oct. 8, via Random House, the same day as Winfrey’s special.
Winfrey, who remains CEO of her own WBD-owned cable network, continues to produce and appear in programming on platforms across broadcast and streaming — but CBS has been host to some of the biggest interviewers of her post-Oprah show career. 2021’s barnburner, Oprah with Meghan and Harry, most notably seen by 18 million viewers the night it aired — and, per the network, a total of 49.1 million worldwide with in the first two days of release.
Though Keough’s since plugged such high-profile projects as Amazon’s Daisy Jones and the Six adaptation and Hulu’s Under the Bridge over the last two years, the Emmy-nominated actress has spoken little about her mother’s death after complications from bariatric surgery. Winfrey’s exclusive interview about Keough’s book includes not only remembrances of her life with Lisa Marie but never-before-seen family photos, videos and a selection of the Presley heir’s audio recordings.
It’s not immediately clear if Keough spoke about Graceland’s near-foreclosure sale, halted in May after a lawsuit, or her 2023 settlement with grandmother Priscilla Presley in the wake of Keough becoming sole heir to Lisa Marie’s estate.
The Presleys – Elvis, Lisa Marie And Riley airs Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+.
