Today is Nomination Day for the by-election in St. Ann North East, set for September 30, the Electoral Office of Jamaica has confirmed that if only one candidate is nominated for the by-election, that person will be declared the Member of Parliament by the Returning Officer.
The EOJ will start accepting nominations from eligible candidates at 10 o’clock this morning and close at 2:00 p.m.
The People’s National Party has said it will not be participating in the by-election.
Jamaica Labour Party candidate Matthew Samuda is therefore expected to be declared the winner if there’s no other nomination.
Nomination will take place at the Office of the Returning Officer, St Ann North Eastern, located at 1 Wharf Street, St. Ann’s Bay.
Mr Brown told Radio Jamaica News that the Electoral Office is prepared for today’s activities.
