Juice WRLD’s two new posthumous releases rack up millions of plays ahead of his upcoming album.
A pair of new Juice WRLD tracks debuted this week and have already racked up millions of listens ahead of the late rapper’s third and reportedly final posthumous album release. The two songs are packaged together as part of Juice WRLD’s The Pre-Party, and feature Aquafina and Young Thug.
Since his untimely death in 2019 due to an accidental drug overdose, Juice WRLD’s estate has consistently released new music from the musician — so much, in fact, that he’s actually had more songs chart since his death than he did while he was still alive.
Juice WRLD had teased both songs on his social media accounts while he was still living, having previewed “World Tour (Aquafina)” on Instagram Live in 2018. Both he and Young Thug teased “Lightyears” in the months before the COVID shutdowns in early 2020.
Both songs are due to appear on the forthcoming The Party Never Ends album, which will be Juice’s third posthumous album, and reportedly the last. His first posthumous release, Legends Never Die, spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart in July 2020, while his second, Fighting Demons, debuted at No. 2 on the same chart in December 2021.
During his life, Juice WRLD earned three top five albums on the Billboard 200, while he has charted 80 songs altogether, including posthumous releases. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, he has charted 87 songs in total, with only 29 of those debuting while he was alive.
He is only the latest artist to have posthumously debuted on the Billboard charts. Eight artists have earned posthumous #1 hits on the Hot 100, including Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Jim Croce, John Lennon, The Notorious B.I.G., Soulja Slim, Static Major, and XXXTentacion. As for albums, 2Pac, who was murdered in 1996, earned an impressive eight top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 following his death, including three #1 hits.
