Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States from September 21 to 23, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday (September 17).
During this trip, PM Modi will join other world leaders for the Quad Summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden. The summit will also include Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and will be held in Wilmington, Delaware.
Additionally, PM Modi will attend the UN’s “Summit of the Future” in New York on September 22 and 23. He is expected to address an Indian community event and participate in discussions with global leaders.
Here’s a look at the detailed itinerary of PM Modi’s US visit, as shared by the MEA:
September 21: Quad Summit
The main highlight of PM Modi’s visit will be the Quad leaders’ meeting on Saturday, September 21, in Wilmington, Delaware. US President Joe Biden will host the event in his hometown, marking the first time he has invited foreign leaders there during his presidency. Notably, this will likely be Biden’s final Quad summit as president since he is not seeking a second term, and the US will have a new leader by the time India hosts the next Quad meet.
The MEA shared that the Quad leaders will review progress made over the past year and set goals for the future, focusing on helping Indo-Pacific nations with their development needs.
September 22: ‘Modi & US Progress Together’ in New York
In New York, PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on September 22. Over 24,000 members of the Indian community are expected to attend the event titled ‘Modi & US Progress Together’.
“Prime Minister would also be interacting with CEOs of leading US-based companies to foster greater collaborations between the two countries in the cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology,” MEA said.
September 23: Summit of the Future at UNGA
“On 23 September, the Prime Minister will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The theme of the Summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. A large number of global leaders are expected to participate in the Summit,” the ministry said in its statement.
“On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister would be holding bilateral meetings with several world leaders and discussing issues of mutual interest,” it added.
