The Leamington Flyers are on an early-season roll.

The Flyers made it four-straight wins to start the Ontario Junior Hockey League season with a 2-1 win at home over the King Rebellion on Sunday.

Michael Denney’s power-play goal snapped a 1-1 tie in the second period and stood as the winner. Denney also assisted on Ashton Darocy’s first-period goal to open the scoring.

Goalie Marcus Vandenberg, who played parts of three seasons in the OHL, stopped 24-of-25 shots against the Rebellion (1-1-0-1) to improve to 2-0 on the season with a 1.50 goals-against average and .940 save.

Sweet Vipers victory

The LaSalle Vipers scored four-unanswered goals to erase an early deficit en route a 5-2 road win over the Elmira Sugar Kings on Sunday.

It was the first road win of the season for the Vipers (2-0-0-0) with the club going three-for-nine on the power play to earn the Western Conference victory in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Connor Chartrand and Zach Vaillancourt each had a goal and assist for the Vipers (2-0-0-0). Jak Thiessen, Kyle Greene and Nicholas Graniero also scored against the Sugar Kings (0-2-0-0). Goalie Dante Bertolin picked up the win in next with a 27-save performance.

Crawford leads 73’s

It was an impressive debut for 15-year-old Matthew Crawford with the Essex 73’s.

Crawford, who is an OHL draft pick of the Peterborough Petes, scored twice to lead the 73’s to a season-opening 4-1 win on the road over the Wheatley Sharks in Bill Stobbs Division play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League on Saturday.

Jayden Seguin and captain Gabe Piccolo also scored for the 73’s (1-0-0-0) with Darian Dufour scoring the lone goal for the Sharks (1-1-0-0) against Essex goalie Adrian McBride, who made 25 saves.

Meanwhile, the Amherstburg Admirals (0-2-0-0) fell in the club’s home opener by a 2-0 count to the Dresden Kings (2-0-0-0) on Saturday.
