Police in Kingston, Ont., say they’ve closed Montreal Street near Belle Park after multiple stabbings and an ongoing standoff Thursday.

Police say three people have been stabbed and a standoff continues.

Frontenac County paramedics told CBC all three victims were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Around 11:20 a.m., police said Montreal Street is closed between Hickson Avenue and Railway Street due to an incident.

Const. Anthony Colangeli said around 12:20 p.m. that officers were investigating multiple scenes after receiving reports of a serious assault. Police are negotiating with the suspect and don’t believe there’s any ongoing risk to public safety, Colangeli said.

It happened near the city’s Integrated Care Hub health centre. Colangeli said it’s been a difficult day for clients there, who will be offered support.

The scene is in central Kingston, about two kilometres from its waterfront. Closing Montreal Street takes away one of the connections between downtown and Highway 401 with the long-term closure of the LaSalle Causeway.
