VIMSAR Super Speciality Hospital yet to be functional after 6 years

Though the construction of VIMSAR Super Speciality Hospital at Burla in Sambalpur was completed in 2017, it is yet to be functional even after six years due to alleged apathy and dillydallying by the Odisha government and the hospital authorities.

As per reports, infrastructure of the hospital constructed by a company from Visakhapatnam is fully ready for operation. However, according to VIMSAR director Bhabagrahi Rath, some specialist doctors for different departments are yet to be appointed and hence, the hospital is yet to be made operational.

“Some works in the hospital are still to be completed. We just received fire and lift clearances. We are going through different processes including water and electricity connections. We can’t start the hospital before ensuring safety process as we will be responsible in case of any accidents in future,” said Rath.

“The hospital will be made operational after following all the rules and regulations. Staff of VIMSAR will work there. Some more posts have been created and we have written letter to the government to fill up the posts,” he added.

As per local residents, people of western Odisha will no more have to be dependent on Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for treatment after the operation of VIMSAR Super Speciality Hospital. Even, patients from the neighbouring state like Chhattisgarh will be benefitted by the hospital.

“The hospital can’t function only in building. Specialist doctors and other staff are needed to make the hospital operational. However, the current managing body of the hospital doesn’t have the power for the appointment of doctors,” said Laxmidhar Mohanty, a local resident.
