Formation of new Notified Area Councils (NACs) in Odisha is not in the government proposal, informed Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
According to the Minister, the previous government had earlier announced the formation of new NACs in a hasty manner ahead of the 2024 General Elections. However, the new government has not yet received any proposals from the district Collectors in a formal manner in this regard.
“The previous government had earlier announced formation of as many as 57 new NACs in the State ahead of the 2024 General Elections. However, the new government has not received any proposals in this regard,” said Mohapatra.
“Only letters were written to the Collectors of various districts over the matter. But, no proposals from them have been received yet. Decision about formation of new NACs will be taken after necessary deliberation. We will again write letters to Collectors and take steps after receiving their proposals as per the proper procedure,” he added.
